Holding The Black Swan

The black swan has long stood as the dark counterpart to the white swan’s purity and grace.

In this piece, the woman stands poised as she gently holds the swan. It becomes a symbol of the hidden, the misunderstood and the parts of ourselves we are often taught to conceal. Rather than rejecting it she holds it close, acknowledging the shadow that lives within us all.

Wholeness is not found in denying the shadow but in acknowledging its place within us. The dark feathers blur the boundary between woman and bird suggesting the line between what we reveal and what we conceal is often thinner than we imagine. When held with awareness and acceptance what once divided becomes whole.
