About Terrill Popik
Born in the Okanagen, Canada and raised against the majestic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Terrill Popik’s early life was shaped by a profound connection to the natural world and a deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms. Her childhood was filled with the rhythms of music and dance, cozy candlelight evenings and a home that was warm, welcoming and full of atmosphere, an environment that nurtured her creativity and sense of wonder. Camping, fishing, skiing and exploring the wilderness instilled in her a love of movement, light and texture, elements that would later define her work. Married to an R.C.M.P officer, mother to 3 remarkable children, beautiful daughter in law and Gigi to 2 sweet grandbabies, Terrill has shared a life rich with adventure. She has travelled extensively with her family, immersing herself in over 30 countries, embracing new cultures and making meaningful human connections. Now based in Halifax she draws inspiration from the city’s coastal charm, everchanging light and the quiet beauty of its natural surroundings. Terrill discovered her artistic voice while bonding through creativity with her ailing father. This sparked an unexpected journey of exploration, reflection, and self-discovery, combining curiosity with a lifelong appreciation for beauty. She is a proud student of The Mastery Program offered by The Milan Art Institute.
Terrill’s Paintings reflect quiet resilience, the subtle power of vulnerability and the enduring beauty of life. While she works with multiple mediums each piece is carefully finished in oil, she builds layers of color, texture and light. Her creative process is intuitive and meditative, letting each work emerge organically while maintaining deliberate attention to composition, light and shadow. “Art is where what is imagined and felt takes shape, inviting connection, reflection and the quiet knowing that it need not be fully understood.” Collectors are drawn to the emotional depth and contemplative elegance of her work, where each painting offers both a narrative and visual resonance inviting each viewer to find their own meaning within it.
Her studio is where Terrill’s ideas take form, always alive with music. She especially loves to create in the early morning hours before the world wakes. When quiet and soft light set the perfect stage for creative flow. On warm days, the double doors open to the surrounding landscape where deer and wildlife move gently through her yard, a living reminder of natures quiet beauty. Outside the studio, Terrill embraces a life rich with movement, connection and discovery. She enjoys practicing yoga, hiking, paddleboarding, sharing laughter and stories with friends and cherishes time with her family and beloved grandchildren. Travel remains a central source of inspiration as she and her husband immerse themselves in new cultures, landscapes and communities creating experiences that inform and deepen her art. They might be found wandering through a new city, enjoying live music or sharing a quiet cocktail. These moments of whimsy, romance and curiosity help to inspire her. With her husband’s upcoming retirement, after 30 years of service, she looks forward to continuing, with even more freedom, their journey of exploration, family and meaningful connection. Living fully in the moments that inspire both life and art.
I paint as an act of reverence, for life in all of its moments. My work is shaped by the beauty of a life fully felt, one of love, loss, wonder and the still spaces between that so often go unnoticed. I am drawn to where tenderness lingers and meaning slowly unfolds.
Each painting holds an invitation to pause, to look with gentleness and to recognize beauty not as perfection but as something deeply felt and ever evolving. These works are created to be lived with, offering connection, reflection and gentle strength. When someone collects my work, it becomes a shared holding place where story, presence and the experience of being alive meet.
Artist Statement
My process begins with life itself. My experiences, my travels, quiet conversations with friends and family as well as the small fleeting moments, like the ones shaped by the wonder and movement I witness in my grandchildren, all provide me with inspiration. Each painting grows from an intention, a feeling or thought I’d like to explore more deeply. I often use the female form as a vessel to share my story and work with symbolism that feels rare, affirming that difference is not only accepted but beautiful. I move freely between materials using charcoal, inks, spray paint, a variety of markers and acrylic paint. I love layering and experimenting, letting movement and texture emerge. While I work with intention, I leave space for curiosity and discovery along the way always turning to oil paint, my favorite medium, to bring the work to life and completion.
“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.”
